Exploring my Inspiration from Werneth Low Country Park: From Photography to Textile Design

The two images (above) on the right are photos I took whilst on a walk, capturing the breathtaking views from the top of Werneth Low, just a short distance from where I live. This scenic spot holds a special place in my heart and often serves as a source of inspiration for my creative work.

The first image (above) is an original drawing I created as part of my final project degree show. Drawing from nature and my surroundings has always been a key part of my artistic process, and this particular piece reflects the emotions and atmosphere I feel when walking through the local landscape.

Below, you can see how I’ve developed textile samples from these initial drawings. I have used charcoal and oil pastels, and I experimented with textures and patterns to bring the essence of Werneth Low into my textile designs. The transition from sketch to textiles has been an exciting process, allowing me to explore new ways of expressing the natural beauty around me through textiles.

These samples represent my journey in blending fine art techniques with textile design, creating something that feels both personal and connected to the environment. I look forward to continuing this exploration and sharing more of my work!

The image above shows how I have created a concept using bookbinding, risography, sketching and textiles.

The five samples at the bottom of the image above have been created using an embellisher machine (similar to the machine below). For more information about this technique click here.
