Deep Lancashire (dialect) Songs And Ballads Of The Industrial North West

Celebrating the Lancashire Dialect: A Glimpse into a Lancashire Tradition.

This video was taken from YouTube, and while I tried to find the contact details of the creator, I was unable to locate any further information. If the creator would like me to take the video down, I would be more than happy to do so.

My interest in Lancashire dialect poems and songs runs deep and brings back memories of my own family member’s voices.

I wanted to share a video that I believe captures the traditional spirit of Lancashire dialect poetry. These recitals are more than just performances—they are a way to keep the rich history and unique voices of Lancashire alive.

I find Harvey Kershaw’s voice in particular captivating. It reminds me so much of the voices I grew up hearing, like my grandad, Uncle Tom, and my two Uncle Charlies. Yes, I had two uncles with the same name, so I fondly refer to them as Uncle Charlie 1 and Uncle Charlie 2 (ironically, of course!).

For me, this video isn’t just about the poetry—it’s about preserving a part of our cultural identity. The Lancashire dialect, with its distinct rhythms and pronunciations, offers a nostalgic connection to the past. In an age where local dialects are fading, I think it’s vital to keep these traditions alive and celebrate them.

If you’re as passionate as I am about keeping the Lancashire dialect alive, I hope you’ll enjoy this beautiful recital. Let’s continue to cherish and pass down these unique stories and voices for generations to come.
