Research Visit Compstall Mill

05/03/23

Compstall Mill was once a print works, but it is now derelict and due to be demolished very soon to make way for a new housing estate. This is such a shame. The mill is next to Etherow Country Park, where there is a lake and is a mile away from where I live. I would come to Etherow as a teenager and sail my dad’s boat on the lake. We would have brilliant summers sailing at Etherow and barbecues and we would also go to lake Windemere in the Lake District. When I wasn’t sailing me and my sister would spend our time inside the mill, only one section was open and there was an old metal wheel which we used as a round-about. There was nothing to hold on to so most of the time we would fall off! It didn’t matter though, back then we would always graze our knees or scrape our arms it was part of growing up and fond memories!
