Research Visit Quarry Bank Mill

03/03/23

For the synthesis project I visited Quarry Bank Mill which I enjoyed very much and the visit allowed me to see a textile mill in operation. I wanted to make a comparison with other mills, which are still standing today.

The reason for my visit to Quarry Bank mill was not just to see a mill in operation, but what it was like to work there. Just to get a glimpse into history and to think about the many people who toiled in the mill was an experience in itself but a pleasant walk in the grounds on a lovely sunny day made it even better.

Even though the mill itself is a museum it does also produce its own textiles. The mill site is a National Trust property in Wilmslow, Cheshire.

The mill is a “rare surviving eighteenth-century cotton mill, built by the industrialist Samuel Greg, with working heritage machinery.”
